---Bio--- In the spirit of the grand and historic traditions of crafting, puttering, and tinkering I have been working with crochet, video, and found objects to investigate how technological processes and scientific advancements inform our understandings of, connections to, and/or separations from, the physical world. Sometimes the objects I find come together and stand on their own as singular sculptural installations. Other times, these objects become studies for depiction via crochet or video processes. Or yet still, selected items may be melded with projections and/or linked with other looped and accreted forms. This fluid movement between found objects, images, and sculptural forms is an intentional examination of the ways we freely shift between physical and digital domains – accumulating, meshing, and intertwining information from both realities within our thoughts and dreams. I do not seek to elevate the objects that I have found and addressed. Instead, each is carefully considered, replicated or assembled, and then posed in a familiar manner. A replicated dust mop rests on the floor, a crocheted skateboard skirts the rail beneath an overhead projection, and an adding machine sits atop a table with its tape raveling into the form of a cloud (or is it a cloud that is unraveling into an adding machine?). At once recognizable, yet somehow altered, these objects have been merged and morphed - much like our thoughts, experiences, and understandings are as we drift into sleep. |
